Desires, Listening to Your Hunger Hormones & Prioritizing Health

correct understandings emotional health habit habit #2: eat clean mental health physical health true health Dec 21, 2023

1)

You can’t control your desires.

But you can influence them so they don’t control you.

2)

Regarding nutrition, there are 8 hunger & fullness hormones responsible for regulating optimal intake.

Think of a child (who has very strong, healthy hormonal cues).

Rarely do you see a child binging or keeping themselves from eating.

When they are hungry, they eat. When they are full, they stop.

They don't have to hide ice cream because they will eat it when their body actually wants it. Constantly overeating, eating too quickly, eating distracted, or restricting can downregulate these 8 hormones.

The goal?

Don't eat when it's "time" to eat (a cultural standard).

Eat when your body is telling you it's hungry (a God-given standard).

This was a summary from a recent study . . .

"Health and fitness has a problem — for all the profitable goods and services, outcomes worsened.

Life expectancy declined, the cost of chronic illness is mounting, and the mental health crisis fueled record rates of loneliness, suicide, and substance abuse.

With the public's faith on its side, the industry can help remedy longstanding issues, but productized wellness will never eliminate need for lifestyle interventions."

My takeaway: No one can give you your health. Nor will anyone become healthy for you. There isn't a magic pill or silver bullet.

Your health will only be as good as you decide it to be.
